“Hockey is not an individual game. It only works as a team.” - Jean-Pierre “JP” Boillat

Ice hockey is fast, intense and unforgiving. Decisions are made in seconds. Mistakes are exposed immediately. Success is not built on individual highlights, but on a team that performs under pressure.

Jean-Pierre “JP” Boillat has been part of this world for more than five decades. Hockey has shaped his life — and still does today. As both a player and a referee, JP experiences the game from two different perspectives. What happens on the ice also shapes the way he looks at work, leadership and collaboration.

Recently, we accompanied JP to two games at the ice hockey arena in Düdingen, in the canton of Fribourg. In one game, he was on the ice as a referee — responsible for clear decisions and fair play. In the other, he was part of the game himself, competing alongside his team.

JP hero story 5

A System in Motion.

“You’re never acting alone on the ice.”

Ice hockey is a system in constant motion. Lines change. Situations shift. Pressure remains. No one plays alone. Every move influences the next.

In this game, it is not only about speed. It is about timing. Not about control, but about trust.

It only works when everyone knows their role, takes responsibility and trusts the team. This is also how JP thinks about collaboration — on the ice and in professional life.

JP hero story 2

Every Role counts.

“Talent only matters when it serves the team.”

As a player, JP knows that talent alone does not move a team forward. Holding the puck too long slows the game down. Overlooking teammates holds the team back.

Responsibility means knowing when to push forward — and when to pass. Individual performance matters. But only when it makes the team stronger.

In hockey, progress is never made alone. It is built together — shift by shift.

JP hero story 3

Clarity under Pressure.

“Decisions have to be clear, even when emotions run high.”

Alongside his role as a player, JP has been an active referee for more than 35 years — a role that demands a discipline of its own.

Referees make decisions under pressure. They create clarity when tensions rise. Their role is not to be liked. Their role is to keep the game fair, structured and moving.

Structure does not slow the game down. It makes good teamwork possible.

JP hero story 7

Same Game. Different Arena.

“Leadership is knowing when to lead and when to support.”

Today, Jean-Pierre Boillat works as Head of Business Area Defense & Security at Consulteer.

The environment is different. The principles remain: complex situations, clear roles, shared responsibility.

For JP, leadership does not mean constantly giving direction. It means creating structures that allow teams to act independently. And creating space for others to grow.

All4One in Practice.

“Strong teams don’t happen by chance.”

JP has never been someone who wanted to work alone — neither in sports nor in professional life. What matters to him is how roles connect, how responsibility is shared and how trust turns individual effort into collective progress.

Strong results emerge where collaboration is taken seriously. Where communication is clear. Where people understand their role within the bigger picture.

Showing Team Spirit.

“You don’t strengthen a team with words alone.”

At Consulteer, team spirit does not stop at the workplace. That is why we were there in Düdingen — not just as spectators, but as supporters.

For us, it was a clear sign of appreciation: for JP’s commitment, his mindset and the team-first approach he brings to the ice as much as to his everyday work. In the spirit of Everybody is a Hero, we support his ice hockey team and make visible what strong collaboration is built on: trust, responsibility and shared effort.

Together. We. Grow.
